Animation meme - Which is not unduly obvious, as I am about to explain

Animation meme
From atara - I had to do this meme, I'm a big fan of animation! And yet despite that claim, there's a ton of animated films I haven't seen.

X what you saw
[] what you haven't finished/saw sizable portions
Bold what you loved
Strike for what you disliked/hated
Leave unchanged if neutral

To this I'll add:
? - I can't remember
F - saw it, have forgotten most of the details
b - watched a bit, could watch more
B - watched a bit, never want to see the rest

Also, my use of bold doesn't mean I loved the film, it means I thought it was better than average. I enjoy, but have yet to knock-my-socks-off love, specific animated films. Other films that impressed me when I first saw them, now I'm more neutral about. Yeah, I'm a snob. :-)

I've never much liked Disney. (Artistic quality, yes, everything else, no.) Except for the Pixar movies, for all the other Disney features on this list that I know I watched from start to finish, if I could turn back the clock I wouldn't have watched most of them.

In terms of films on this list I've been a little more interested in watching than others: Meet the Robinsons, Monster House, Nightmare Before Christmas, Pom Poko, The Girl who Leapt Through Time, and Waking Life, although I'm pretty sure that last one will be a snooze-fest. Also, I'd not heard of Shinkai Makoto, and the fact they have their own section makes me curious.

Is it sad that if I were to do this, I'd reorder the Disney movies by year?

I so had to chuckle over Heavy Metal 2000... Everyone agrees on it. Meaning I'll have to give it a try. :) Like I did for The Wall and couldn't. Like I want to do for End of Evangelion.

I've sat through Cool World. Why... I don't know. (Actually, I do: I had won the pretty good sountrack and wanted to see what movie used all these songs. I still can't remember a single scene where I could recognise the songs.)

Isn't "Light Years" French? I gather there's no "The Masters of Time" because it was never translated in English. Also, "When the Wind Blows" is absolutely not for everyone. And the whole Satoshi Kon category just needs that as a blanket warning...

I've seen bits of Lady Death. Oh sweet lord was that bad... but definitely in a MST3K way. NOT to be used with a drinking game for melodrama and plot holes or you'd be dead from alcohol poisoning halfway through.

Oh drat, I should have labelled End of Evangelion with a warning, too! And no, no no no, stay away from HM 2000. It's not bad enough to be funny, and it's not just a waste of time, it's like time itself committed suicide. It's a thoroughly unpleasant experience (I enjoyed exactly one line of dialogue), unless huge breasts and seeing masses of barbaric lizardmen being bloodily slaughtered are enough to make it worth it for you, despite everything else in the film.

Lights Years, yeah, it's French originally but I saw an English dub. Very... odd, with some truly bizarre choice of imagery. I've tried to block most of it out.

When the Wind Blows - I've seen tiny clips from when it first came out, and avoided it because of the dreary atmosphere and despressing story. Grave of the Fireflies and Barefoot Gen are two other films I partially feel I should see too, except I'm never in the mood to get *that* depressed.

I haven't seen Grave yet, and I've only read the first volume of Gen - my first real introduction to manga as a teenager. (The French were, and remain, decades ahead of the North American market in this niche.) And yet I can say that Wind is probably downright chippy compared to them.

None of them are movies to see alone, and at night. Or, perish the thought, together. Gyah.

I'm actually surprised at how much of that I have seen. I believe the Wonder Woman animated movie they are talking about is a recent DVD release from Warner Brothers animation as part of the DC Universe collection. Superman : Doomsday was the first in this series.

If I'm bored this weekend, I may go through this list,a nd post it to my journal.

The big deal about Shinkai Makoto was that he animated Voices of a Distant Star single-handedly, and it's about 30 minutes long, which was pretty much unheard-of at the time.

Light Years is impressively messed-up, although I enjoyed it.

I've seen The Rescuers and also read The Rescuers, and was heavily confused to find them completely different. I think they actually based the movie off of Miss Bianca.

This list doesn't include the freakish Raggedy Ann and Andy and Jack and the Beanstalk from the '70s, which is too bad, because I saw both of them.

Oh geeze, I saw the Nostalgia Critic's review, with clips, of Raggedy Ann & Andy. Drugs. Drugs is the only way to explain that movie.
