Welcome back!
This here's a post going out to a whole bunch of folks again, some in the real and some in the abstract.

First, to my friend ringo_raccoon, with a hearty congrats on landing the job and having a great time at the con! Yessss, I see you there, in that photo, with the orb. You sneaky bastard. Just because it's covered in tinfoil doesn't mean I don't know it's there. But seriously, like someone else already remarked, you're too critical of your costume work -- I tell ya, even though I've only seen photos, they look terrific and full of character! I think being harsh helps you keep up the quality, but do not put your own work down! There's a difference between being critical and derogatory. Anyway. It looks like you've discovered a raccoon cult while at the con... I'm not sure if I should be happy or frightened. (grin)

Did you get to meet any of the Winnipeg crowd down there? We had a good number carpool down, and although I wasn't able to go, I stayed up for several nights beforehand making some comedy CDs they could take on the long drive down with them. We have a couple of costumers within our group now - you might have seen fetlock in his moose outfit? I didn't think you were going so I didn't tell you to look out for them nor them for you. Although it is completely irrelevant to this entire paragraph, I hereby dedicate this song to you. (1 Meg.) Yes, it does sound familiar, until you get about 40 seconds into it. (Avoid following this link for spoilers: lyrics)

To everyone returning from the con: I'm jealous. There, I've said it. Not so much from having missed the con itself, but when I hear "...and I saw (person) and (person) and (person) and (person)..." it reminds me how badly-networked I am at cons. Luckily this feeling passes quickly, and I'm looking forward to hearing of everyone's adventures! So... um... er... post needs more angst... uh... oh! I know! You missed the Santa Claus Parade! HA!

And finally, to all my American friends: Happy Thanksgiving in advance! May your turkey leftovers be tasty and short-lived!

Current Mood: amused amused

I know it's irrelevant. But I still wish they'd made a sequel to that game, despite all its flaws.

Game?

(edit)

Oh... duh. Inherit the Earth! Sorry, I didn't think non-Ringo people would get the reference and I thought you were talking about some game based on the song I mentioned, which confused me quite a bit.

Yeah, a sequel would be great. Technically we could probably pull it off ourselves. There's games engines all ready to use and tweak (Adventure Game Studio, for example), and I think I have some old software kicking around that was specifically designed to extract character sprites out from the original CD.

Permission would be another matter. I think Wyrmkeep entertainment (?) has the rights to it... the fellow behind it I think was one of the original people who came up with the game. He's ported it to Windows and is still selling it. I looked through a discussion forum on his site a while back and it looked as if he had some kind of "sequel" in mind, but I use the quotation marks because it sounded more like a real-time online gaming thing than the classic adventure format. Who knows, maybe he'd allow a sequel. Still, there's odd legalities left over... for example, I think the game company that originally distributed ITE (or whatever game company absorbed them) retain the rights to the orb concept, so we'd have to say "globe" or something like that.

Yeah, I feel the same way about that. (Something I'd like to change the next time I go to a con. I have no idea when that will be though.)
But then I also think they must also have a very good memory to remember so many names (something else I am not too good at).

Now that you mention it, I'm terrible with names too. Maybe this is a extra facet of the problem I hadn't realized.

Hey!

Yeah, I had an awesome time at the convention! I had to get a picture with the foil ball just for you, for the 'Chota' reference to the Orb of Storms from "Inherit the Earth". I swear, one of these days I'll get the Chota outfit finished.

I did see a moose costume there, but I never caught the guy's name. It was awesome, though- great cartoony moose. Had christmas lights draped over the antlers. I'm not sure who all I may have met from the Winnepeg group. I did meet WhiteFox, a costumer from Canada.

I'm still suprised how well the costumes went over, and how many people were interested in them, and attracted to them. I am hard on myself about my work, and am constantly comparing it to other people's designs and costumes. It does help to keep the quality and innovation up in one respect, but in another I fail to admit that I've done a good job when other people tell me I have. Perhaps there is no fault in modesty, so long as it keeps me dedicated to doing good work.

And yes, there is a raccoon cult.

Re: Hey!

Yep, that was fetlock in the moose outfit! He only got it recently and not used it much... I heard he was planning on adding Christmas lights for the con, I guess it worked! Although apparently it's a really hot costume to wear, even by most costume standards. There was talk of putting two fans into it.

Don't know WhiteFox... there's Wolever from Winnipeg, who's got a toony white wolf/dog costume, and there's phar who had a zebra thing going on. Of course some people might've brought several costumes. Glad you got to see at least one of them! :)

Cute song! I thought at first that it would be "Space Oddity" but listening cured me of that confusion.
