Things learned - Which is not unduly obvious, as I am about to explain

Things learned
I learned three things as a consequence of Halloween this year.

1. Under a black light (i.e., an ultraviolet light), tonic water glows an eerie light blue colour. Apparently it's the quinine.

2. Tonic water has quinine in it.

3. Teeth glow under a black light. I think it's something in the enamel, but I'm not sure. In particular, my teeth glow pretty brightly when I'm standing two feet away from a black light. It's not an uncommon effect, but few people seem to have heard of it - I certainly hadn't. It was made more unusual at the time when atara tried it, but her teeth only glowed slightly in comparison to mine.

Viz.:

This photo doesn't even do it justice - see that symbol in the lower left-hand corner? That's some glow-in-the-dark writing scribbled on the back wall. My teeth were glowing the same green colour, although it doesn't look like it from the image. It was really disturbing.

It could be something in your toothpaste that ended up glowing more brightly than teeth otherwise wood. Or mints, if you were eating them beforehand.

LOL, that pic cracks me up.

I wonder how my teeth would glow under a black light?

you can always try eating different things and putting yourself under a black light and see if that affects it. Vitamin C glows in black light , I'm wondering if you have ate an orange or somthing that contained a large amount of it prier too taking the pic.

I could be wrong but its worth looking into , In the name of Science. LOL

If I had a portable black light, I could experiment. :)

I hadn't eaten any oranges or citrus that entire week, and I brush my teeth in the morning with Crest (TM), and it was getting on in the evening when we noticed the glow thing... unless there's something in toothpaste that has a cumulative effect. Curious, certainly.

Is it a whitening version of Crest?
Or maybe their special quinine-flavoured toothpaste? Very rare. ;-)

This really has nothing to do with your LJ entry, rather I have a couple of questions about the shopping list you gave us.

I noticed that you listed Rhudiprrt #10. Does that mean that you have the issues after that one and only need #10? I assume so, given how carefully crafted the list, but if you could let me know...

I'll see what we can do with Tall Tails. They didn't have anything past #13 when we looked the first time - but some of the dealers were still setting up tables today, so we'll check back on Saturday and Sunday.

I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed with the size of the dealers' room here. Not quite as large as I'd expected. Ditto for the art show. Then again, it's early on the first day and some people have yet to arrive/set up, so things could change.

There's not a lot of shirt selection, but there were a couple of decent wolf shirts that might fit the bill. We'll see what we can get for you.
