Wasp nest - Which is not unduly obvious, as I am about to explain
Wasp nest
Looks like I've got a small wasp nest in my garage, a little ways above the door going in. It's just within reach of my fingers, definitely reachable by a broom, and is a papery shell slightly smaller than the size of a tennis ball. What's the procedure with these? Spray it with Raid, then run away?

My best suggestion is to call in an exterminator. I've heard varying descriptions of folk-methods for removing them, but a risk assessment says you'd probably rather spend money you don't have to than get stung by the contents of a wasp nest if you make a mistake removing it yourself =^.^=.

That's what I've done - gone to the Home Depot, got the wasp spray, hosted the nest and exited. The spray is foamy and fast-acting - you hit the entrance to the nest first to block their exit. I leave after I've soaked it, because I don't enjoy breathing pesticide fumes.

Wasps are very territorial and you can use that to your advantage.

You can purchase a fake wasps' nest for under $20 (perhaps more like $10) and put it in the same area and the wasps will consider the area taken. The only caveat is that we've done this successfully at home and the in-law's cabin, but that was before there was an established nest.

At the cabin the original nest was removed first. I'm not 100% certain if the wasps would abandon an already established nest... but at least you'd have the fake wasps' nest for next year.

OMG, that actually works?! That's as funny as wrapping your head in a towel so the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal thinks if you can't see it, it can't see you!

Kill it! Kill it it with fire!

Actually, I would call an exterminator, myself, or my Dad. I'm always willing to let someone else take the risk for me.

Assuming you have very good water pressure, get yourself a garden hose with a handle.
From as close to your house door as possible, spray the nest until it falls down, then drop the hose, run into your house and close the door.
Then put up a fake wasp nest.

Or, spray paint mini-graffiti next to the wasp next using anti-wasp racial slurs telling them their kind is not welcome here. Eventually they will get the hint and leave.

Sell the house and move in the middle of the night. It's the only way to be sure. n.n

I just used the pierrekrahn method a couple weeks ago here to get rid of a nest under our deck. :) The sprays work well too, just make sure to get the actual wasp nest killer stuff rather than ordinary Raid.
